LEADERS IN PROFILE
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Introducing a leadership interview on MARTIN HAWORTH. Martin is the founder of Coaching Businesses To Success and has over 20 years experience of managing businesses large and small.

What service or product does your business/website offer?
We offer special hints and tips about how to get the very best from the people you work with. We emphasize the importance of accomplishing this with integrity for the long-term success of your business.

We do offer a formal coaching arrangement for personal and business development.

What motivates you to remain focused on growing your business/website?
Our motivation comes from our ability, through the use of the Internet, to positively change the lives of thousands, potentially millions, of people.

People who manage other people, in whatever size of organization they are in, have a huge responsibility. They possess a great opportunity to create a more fulfilling work experience, thus enriching the lives of their team members.

The global web enables me to send this message to the greatest number of people in the fastest amount of time.

What has been your greatest challenge as a business leader, and how did you overcome it?
My greatest challenge as a leader, has been in realizing that most often it is much better for everyone if you initiate a difficult conversation with an employee or colleague.

I ultimately came to terms with this when I helped a professional woman see that the supervisory role she was in, was simply too much for her. Together, we found a dignified way for her to do something more rewarding, while protecting her personal financial situation. She thanked me...

Describe the most important activity(ies) you do regularly, that you attribute to the success of your site?
I advise everyone to - Get Out There!

I contribute to a number of online forums. This helps me to further develop my own skill as I learn from others. In addition, I am able assist others with their issues.

I write articles to promote and educate people interested in improving their current situation.

On a daily (almost!) basis, I make entries to our online BLOG, which is huge fun and keeps me in the line of vision of my website visitors.

I never miss the chance to get in front of someone who might be interested in visiting my site.

Do you own other internet businesses? If so, what product or service does it offer? Url?: If so, what product or service does it offer? Url?
Not at this time. However, I do have my eye on creating a travel site, which is another one of my passions.

In addition, along with my 23 year-old son, we now own five sites through SiteBuild It! (SBI). These sites are currently in development.

Our goal is to own a number of mini-sites which are financially rewarding and a lot of fun to do together!

What is your greatest accomplishment relating to your site?
I am quite proud of the fact that I have been able to create 77 content-rich web-pages in only 10 weeks! (It's amazing what you can accomplish when you are doing something you love.)

Getting to a number one ranking on Yahoo for my main keyword “coaching businesses” in as little as eight weeks - and having a website in the top 0.3% of all websites on the net – is another accomplishment that I am very pleased about.

How would you recommend others get started on creating a website?
First and foremost, get fascinated by what you know.

Make no mistake, YOU are the world's expert at something - you have to be, only you have experienced your life!

Anyone is capable of having a successful website that is of great value to others. Recognize the opportunity in front of you and embrace the new technology.

Plan on making a lot of mistakes – then learn from those mistakes.

I believe strongly that if you try something which has great potential, yet you only accomplish 70% of your goal, you must celebrate the fact that you just accomplished 70% more than if you had not made the effort at all.

Then, as you systematically address your learning curve, the remaining 30% will also become a reality. Your total efforts will eventually become 100% worthwhile!

How do you define leadership?
It’s important for leaders today to believe wholeheartedly that inherently people are good and have a desire to do well.

Effective leadership is being able to help people realize they already hold the master key to release their full potential.

Describe your favorite leadership tool?
Always ask a second question about what someone has been telling you, whatever it is.

Showing interest in what others have said builds relationships like nothing else.

If you want a great inspirational book (apart from the hundreds I recommend on my website!), read Lou Gerstner's, Who Says Elephants Can't Dance.

Any last "Words of Wisdom"?
Yes, remember the great Charles Lindbergh quotation:

"What kind of man would live where there is no daring? I don't believe in taking foolish chances, but nothing can ever be accomplished without taking any chance at all"?

For me, the above quote sums up the meaning of life.

Incidentally, I spotted this saying in the foyer of the “American Adventure” in Walt Disney World's EPCOT Center in Florida. I took a picture of the quote and that picture now sits before me every day on my desk!

Editors Note: Martin Haworth represents one more real-life example of how one's passion for an idea can quickly become a successful online business. What's your passion? Perhaps my #1 leadership tip is for you to identify and follow your passion. That's exactly what I did after discovering Sitesell.com. - Richard Gorham, President of Leadership-Tools.com.
