LEADERS IN PROFILE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Introducing our leadership interview on woman business executive FELICIA DAVIS, founder and Chief Visionary of the WomenCEO Network. Businesswomen who join her network are challenged to expand their thinking as they receive cutting-edge training and resources. Felicia encourages every woman business executive who join and to contribute her energy and creative ideas at www.Women-CEO.com What service or product does your business/website offer? WomenCEO Network is a Professional Development Organization for the woman business executive. We provide direct access to tools, resources and collaborative networks that foster growth and development. Women who join our network come together via seminars and monthly networking functions to collaborate on strategies for accelerating the growth of their business. The goal is the same regardless of the size or type of the business. We foster an entrepreneurial mindset and we work to leverage the synergy that is developed between our members as each woman business executive works to support and uplift one another. The process of making connections, forming alliances and positioning one’s self for continual growth is highly valuable in the career planning and leadership process. What motivates you to remain focused on growing your business/website? There are common issues and challenges faced by women in the leadership role. Women entrepreneurs across the globe share very similar concerns - access to capital, education and training, opportunities to build a supportive network of partners and mentors - and the desire to be taken seriously as a woman business executive. As a lifelong learner, I also get great value in learning from others. Ongoing education and training must be a key part of any business professionals’ long-term plan for success. What has been your greatest challenge as a woman business executive and leader, and how did you overcome it? My true strengths are my creativity and my ability to effectively visualize what I want. Yet, I’m also a business owner it’s probably not surprising that I sometimes find myself taking on too much of the administrative tasks that can certainly be handled well by others. It's difficult for me not to allow myself to get sidetracked with some of these entry level duties. I've had to learn the process of creating a solid support system that can assist me with handling a majority of my administrative tasks. I've become better at doing this over the last several months but it remains a work in process. Describe the most important activity(ies) you do regularly, that you attribute to the success of your site? The other thing that I always attempt to do is THINK BIGGER than I am. When I am looking at other organizations that can assist me in my business growth, I truly do look at big corporations to understand their business models and key attributes of their success. Do you own other internet businesses? If so, what product or service does it offer? Url?: If so, what product or service does it offer? Url?
What is your greatest accomplishment relating to your site? One major accomplishment that is in the works will be our new Centers of Excellence, which will be a woman business executive member-based community on the site. Since we have a dual member profile made up of corporate employees and small business owners, we have created COE's for each community. How would you recommend others get started on creating a website? The Internet community is huge so the other really big thing that I would recommend is FOCUS. It can be very easy to get distracted and feel lost in another world. Stay focused on the mission of your online business, grab a few support partners and let the fun begin. How do your define effective leadership? As Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, they'll forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Describe your favorite leadership tool? Reflection allows me to take a microscopic look at what I’ve done well and also to carefully consider any errors made during the process. When I make a mistake I seek to understand what I can do differently in order to avoid repeating it in the future. Reflection also allows me to reflect on what was great and to celebrate the victory. Reflection also provides the opportunity to remind myself not to live in the celebration, rather to move past it so that I can continue to grow and create new opportunities to achieve even higher rewards. Any last "Words of Wisdom"? Editors Note: Felicia Davis represents one more real-life example of how one's passion for an idea can quickly become a successful online business. What's your passion? Perhaps my #1 leadership tip is for you to identify and follow your passion. That's exactly what I did after discovering Sitesell.com. - Richard Gorham, President of Leadership-Tools.com.
