Leadership Videos for Maximum Impact

We're pleased to announce a new section of our site that showcases short leadership video clips that leaders can use to strengthen their message and maybe, just maybe - prove that on occasion you can have a great sense of humor.

Every leader has his or her strengths and weaknesses. The most effective leaders learn to identify their weaknesses and use available tools, resources, and members of their team to fill in any leadership gaps.

However, the use of leadership videos to strengthen and support a key message can be very helpful to all leaders, regardless of whether you are a strong communicator or not.

You can be the best public speaker, completely comfortable in front of small or large audiences, and you can still make a speech better by integrating a little multi-media.

For those leaders who are not as comfortable speaking in front of a crowd, the use of leadership video can really help to lessen your anxiety and add fun and clarity to your message.

This new section is all about providing you with short Leadership Videos. The duration of these videos go from 30 seconds to less than ten minutes, so they are easy to add to any agenda.

As an example, imagine that you want to begin a discussion with your team about the importance of thinking outside box to come up with some brand new ideas for your next sales campaign.

Most teams tend to go back to what they know. When the time comes to start planning the next campaign they simply dust off the files of the old campaign and begin updating. As a result the new campaign looks and feels an awful lot like the old campaign - who's going to be excited about that?

So how do you get your people thinking differently?

Here's an idea... what if at the beginning of your meeting you showed your team this 7 minute video of Nick Selby demonstrating true passion.

Go ahead, watch the video right now before reading further. You'll be glad you did.

(7 minute pause... :)

Wow, not what you expected was it? This is a great example of someone thinking outside the box; showing some true PASSION, and taking full advantage of an OPPORTUNITY.

Nick Selby, a sophomore engineering student from Georgia Tech University was chosen to deliver the annual welcome speech to incoming freshmen.

The leadership lesson here is that we are talking about Nick Selby today because he is a great example of someone who took an opportunity, infused a little creativity and a huge amount of passion, and became known by millions of people around the world because a video of his speech went viral online.

No one told Nick to make this speech into a big deal, he did that all on his own.

Now imagine after showing your team Nick's video how you can more effectively engage your team on the following questions: (Hint: Be sure to show a little passion yourself while asking these questions.)

  • What can we do more of, less of, or different to get more people excited about this campaign?
  • How can we get more people physically engaged and having fun with our campaign theme? (Hint: How about a contest asking people/teams to send in a fun video?)
  • How can we make this year's campaign kickoff more fun and memorable?
  • What do we need to do to make certain this is the most successful campaign in the history of our company? (Hint: What would Nick do to make this happen?

This is just one example. Now that your creative juices are flowing, take time to view a few of the other leadership video clips provided.

One of my personal favorites is the young baseball player who is the definition of optimism in the face of disappointing results.

Be sure to read the full page for additional best practices and tips.

If you are aware of other valuable leadership videos that you think we should highlight, please let us know.
