Hello,

Self Leadership
A True Test of Leadership

Self Leadership
In An Uncertain World

"Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one's own person is its ultimate reward."
- Patricia Sampson

In today’s tough economic times, more people are struggling. Too many are jobless or worried that they soon will become part of the newly unemployed.

Most folks seem to agree that strong and effective leadership is sorely lacking.

It’s critical to understand, however, that no matter how much you’d like to point the finger and place blame upon a boss, a company, a politician or even the system at large – doing so would do absolutely nothing to help your personal situation.

To the contrary, Self-Leadership has always been and will always be the single most effective solution for improving one’s personal standing. Having said that, every successful person will tell you that he or she benefited greatly from the wisdom, guidance, and example of others.

You are most likely familiar with this old quote: “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he’ll never be hungry again.”

This timeless quote supports the point that one’s ability to learn, grow and achieve long-lasting success is greatly enhanced when a knowledgeable and caring mentor is added to the equation.

A person can be a very hard worker and highly determined, but still fail if she lacks the proper guidance and support. Success, in most cases, requires a firm commitment from both a student and an effective teacher.

I’m continually amazed when I go searching for a particular leadership tool or resource, how quickly I can find a quality solution to almost any challenge.

Unfortunately, the problem that many people face is that too often they never take the critical step – of SEARCHING. They simply fail to look for the answers they need.

It has also been said, “The two best helping hands you’ll ever receive, reside at the end of your own arms.” While I firmly believe this to be true, I also believe you should never make the mistake of limiting the number of hands that can work on your behalf.

Like so many, my wife and I often wondered how we would ever be able to achieve our dreams. We wanted to live in a beautiful home; provide quality educations for our three daughters; afford fun and memorable family vacations; and build a sizable nest egg for our retirement (and save for three weddings).

In this downturn economy, where literally millions of people are suffering from lost incomes, it is a blessing to know that we have secured our dreams by creating multiple sources of income. We have, in fact, recession-proofed our household.
