Adding a little fun to the workplace does not have to be a major ordeal.

In fact, by using some very simple techniques and tools, you can create positive energy while also gaining ground on your business objectives.

Creating friendly competition among peer groups is a great way to spice up the work day. The rewards do not have to be expensive. In fact, sometimes the best reward doesn’t cost any more than a little time and effort.

Increasing your team’s product knowledge is a common challenge for team leaders. You can utilize games as a way to improve the product knowledge of your team.

Dividing your group into teams for a friendly game of Q & A takes no time at all.

You may even be surprised how seriously your team members will take the challenge. Even if there are no actual prizes involved, your team will want to win “bragging rights” over their peers.

The types of games you can devise can vary widely. Childhood games such as Tic-Tac-Toe or Hangman can easily be incorporated during a staff meeting.

One of the more popular games being utilized in the workplace is Jeopardy. This game is ideal for teaching product knowledge. Some corporations use variations of the game for compliance training and assessments.

Lead your team in a game of Jeopardy in your next leadership meeting. Be creative. A little effort can create a whole lot of fun and energy in the workplace.

Using our new Jeopardy game tool, your main job will be to create the questions and answers that will be used during the game.

Briefly, here is the basic premise of the widely known TV gameshow - Jeopardy.

In a nutshell, the participants first choose a category and value on the game board. As an example, the player might say, “I’ll take Sports for 100 please.”

The leader will then read the clue for the related card and the player must answer the clue in the form of a question.

For example, if the clue is “This famous American athlete won the Decathlon in the Olympics during the 1970’s”. The player would then answer (in the form of question)… “Who is Bruce Jenner?”

If the player answers correctly she (and her team) are awarded the value of the question.

Once all of the values on the board are taken, you add up the scores and the team with the most points wins. Very simple, right?

The Jeopardy tool comes complete with a template for the values, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and a wild card (in the effect you want to get really creative). You can easily add your own logo to the template, print them off and even laminate the cards so that you can use them over and over again if you wish.

Simply tape the values onto a flip chart or dry erase board and you’ll be off and running.

In addition, we provide you with Q&A cards for the leader to easily read the questions and be reminded of the answers.

Now if you want to get really fancy you can use our Excel version of the game, which allows you to pre-fill your questions and answers using the Excel template. (This works best if you have access to a projector so the entire group can easily see the computer screen.)

Before starting the game you will color-fill the questions and answers in black so that the participants’ cannot read them before it's time.

In order to read the question, the leader simply clears the color from the screen and the question is viewable to the group.

To check the answer, click on the Answer tab at the bottom of the work sheet, clear the color to reveal the answer.

Regardless of whether you choose to use the manual version or the Excel version, this tool will assist you in getting your team engaged as you effectively quiz them on their product knowledge.
